The Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) is a volunteer advisory committee that partners with the Tulare County Registrar of Voters Office to support fair and inclusive elections. The LAAC provides recommendations on the implementation of federal and state language access laws to ensure voters with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) can fully understand and participate in the electoral process. The LAAC also reviews translations, outreach efforts, and helps prioritize actions that promote equal access to voting for all, regardless of language ability.

 

Committee Composition:

The LAAC is made up of five (5) at-large representatives from the community, serving two-year staggered terms. Members serve on a volunteer basis and are not compensated for their time or mileage.

 

Covered Languages for Tulare County:

  • Spanish
  • Burmese
  • Ilocano
  • Laotian
  • Tagalog

 

Purpose and Focus:

  • Advise the Registrar of Voters Office on implementing federal and state laws related to language access
  • Assist with recruitment and training of bilingual poll workers
  • Identify and address language, cultural, and geographical barriers
  • Enhance community outreach and voter education for people with disabilities

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Fluent in, or experience with, covered language(s)
  • Experience working with LEP or other language-based communities
  • Skills in communications, training, or digital media
  • Backgrounds in legal, advocacy, or public policy relevant to elections, voting rights, or language compliance

Tulare County Registrar of Voters Office
5300 W. Tulare Avenue, Suite 105, Visalia
Second Thursday of every other month at 10:00 a.m.
(No meetings are held in February, March, April, October, November, or December during even-numbered election years.)
